February 8, 2015 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Bruce)

Highway 99 South – Whistler – Blackcomb Mountain

Husume Buttress has been seeing a few ascents of  29 Forever and Turfs Up. Turfs Up is in “normal” dry tooling conditions. A large rockfall seems to have occurred just above the big cornice, making the the ridge section quite difficult. A station and rappel descent from just above the cornice is now recommended.

29 Forever is in “better than usual” conditions with ice thick enough for stubbies. Miscellaneous other routes appear to be in fairly average conditions, with a bit more ice glazing at best.

Global warming (high freezing levels/ rain over top) seems to be favourable to the routes here, but don’t ever expect to be placing screws much, even at the best of times.
