February 2, 2015 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Alfred, Mauro, Serge and Ila)

Highway 99 North – Marble Canyon

Alfred reports that the Varsity Outdoor Club trip went well on the weekend. The climbing conditions were reasonable on both the Deeping Wall and the first pitch of Icy BC (we didn’t look at the upper pitches). No Deductable was thin on the bottom, but climbable. Ice appeared to be forming all weekend.

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

Saturday, Jan 31: After a failed rental from MEC – they only had two left boots – we (Serge & Ila) decided to go into North Joffre Creek and do some scouting. We hiked in 3.5km, one-way, on mostly flat road and at times hard crust, in hiking boots. Dropped in the valley after the creek to get to the climbs – some pictures below. Never been in here before and the ice looks pretty bare compared to the pics in the guide and previous reports. Anyone end up with two right boots from MEC? 🙂

It was raining on the Duffey late in the day on Saturday and Sunday. Let’s hope temperatures go down in the coming weeks, before Spring is here permanently.
