March 10, 2014 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Jean-Marc and William)

Highway 99 North – Marble Canyon

William climbed Oregon Jack on Sunday. Oregon Jack climbed well, pretty dry, but quite thin/hollow/open at the top. May survive a bit more as it was chilly back there, despite the sun. Much thanks to the guys who put up the new anchor, in a good position for late season ice – it should reduce stuck ropes. That being said….. why does no one get the option to use the upper anchor anymore? The bolts were chopped right down. This is pretty unnecessary, and while the lower anchor is nice, it is challenging to down climb to, and will be even more challenging in early season conditions. It isn’t a very comfortable stance. I liked the old bolts and would be great if that anchor was replaced….. maybe next year?

Marble Canyon looked decent, but definitely starting to melt as we went by.

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

William climbed Rambles Right this weekend. Rain by the end of Saturday at Rambles. Everything was pretty wet and slushy by the end of the day.

Jean-Marc and James climbed Rambles Centre on Monday (March 10). The ice was in and plastic…. Made for great climbing! Pics below.
