January 30, 2014 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Ian)

Highway 99 North – Marble Canyon

The UBC Varsity Outdoor Club is holding its “Intro to Ice” course this weekend at Marble Canyon. We are bringing about 20 beginners for the entire weekend, so just a heads up to everyone that things will be busy. We will do our best to play nice and accommodate.

  1. Thanks for the heads up, but it is time to be realistic about group size for these types of trips.

With the limited amount of climbable ice in SW BC huge groups heading to the rambles and marble every weekend becomes quite the show. Groups of less than 10 seem manageable at marble but doubling that and staying there all weekend does nothing for anyone. Just my 2 cents.

  2. I agree. I’m also not sure what “do our best to play nice” means. Does this imply that your group has a propensity to not play nice?

  3. I think all that was meant by the “best to play nice” comment was that these are new climbers unfamiliar with proper edict unique to the sport, nothing malicious. Its great exposing people to the great sport, but agree a smaller cap should be placed on group size. VIMFF next week, at least those venues are a little more accommodating! Happy climbing!

  4. really appreciate the heads up.
another nice advantage of a site (service) like this is to be able to give people a heads up, or get one. thanks again
