January 19, 2014 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Ray)

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

Hi all, myself (Ray Bucknell) and my girlfriend, Kennedy, attempted to climb at The Rambles Saturday (Jan 18) with disappointing results. Rambles Centre first pitch was pretty melted out and white; detached and hollow throughout with a growing hole in the middle. I think we’ll definitely need a stretch of cold weather before it comes back into good shape… looked like full on spring conditions.

We tramped up to Rambles Right and found climb-able conditions on the WI4- pillar, but with these temps it will be in rough shape soon as well. The ice above it and the climb to the right were in the same shape as the Rambles Centre.

We also had a look at Carl’s Berg. It’s in pretty rough shape with a massive whole in the middle.

It’s been good up until now, so here’s to hoping for a good cold snap!
