January 14, 2014 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Werner)

Highway 99 North – Marble Canyon

Werner climbed with a BCMC Club Trip (Jana, Pavel, David, Bala, Werner) at Marble Canyon on Sunday (Jan 12). Pictures below. There was tons of ice on the Deeping Wall. Good for 3-4 ropes top-rope setups.

There was good ice on Icy BC first pitch (good for 2 ropes – left and right).
Icy BC 2nd pitch: Big hole in the middle – but climbable.
Icy BC 3rd pitch: Right side seemed OK, left half was wide open/unfrozen and flowing water.

Marble was very busy, with many people climbing mixed and dry tooling routes, as well as the 5-6 ice lines. There were 20 climbers on the bottom!

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

Werner climbed with a BCMC Club Trip (Jana, Pavel, David, Bala, Werner) at Rambles Center on Saturday (Jan 11). The ice was in good shape, similar to the previous weekend, but with some snow cover. The ice even looked a bit filled in relative to earlier pictures. The group top-roped the 1st pitch only, but we presume the Upper Tier is in similar shape as the previous weekend.
