February 21, 2013 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Marc)

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

I (Marc-Andre Leclerc) climbed Carl’s Berg yesterday (Feb 19). The route was in quite good shape. There were some big fragile mushrooms on the first pitch. I didn’t place a whole lot of gear as it would have required mega cleaning, but I would bet that its possible to find decent pro with a bit of work. The second pitch had great ice on the right and was more sustained than it appeared from the belay, but would take excellent pro. Carl’s Berg is SUCH a fun route, highly recommended, but it seems as if temps won’t be dropping anytime soon so get it while it lasts!
