November 11, 2012 Ice Climbing Report (Thanks Francis)

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

Tough conditions on the approach to Twisting Couloir. We left Vancouver Thursday night (Nov 8), slept in the sand shed, and got going by 3:30am (Nov 9). We got pretty high by 8am, but it was a real slog with up to 2 ft of fresh unconsolidated snow over boulders. By 8am (way later than expected), we were near the glacier and it was pretty clear that most or all the crevasses/slots were thinly covered. That, together with a report from an earlier party of climbing overhanging neve snow, and the fact that it was socked-in and snowing, made us decide to bail. So we got a good workout, but not even on the route… Bummer.
