December 18, 2011 (Thanks Tyler, Cam and Peter)

Highway 40 – Bridge River Canyon

A drive-by shot of Nite N’ Gale, looking like it’s filling out nicely. The approach pitches look a bit lean and wet, but you be the judge:

Highway 99 North – Marble Canyon

Went to Marble Canyon today – it was +1 C at the parking lot/campground.
Icy BC was gushing water, but looks like it will form up nicely during the next cold spell.
Deeping Wall is in and a nice climb.

A note of caution: with the warmer weather the stones in the ground aren’t frozen in and are easily knocked down onto the climbs.

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road

On the drive up, stopped at the Rambles, it was +4 on the road. Looks like there’s some ice in, but not lots.

Synchronicity is forming up.

.Kelowna Area Climbs:

I checked out a couple of local climbs over the last few days.

NEW CLIMB
Deeper Creek  WI2/3 FA 2009, Tyler Bellows
[ 49°46’9.07″N  119°35’37.24″W  + see location map below]
In! But a bit thin. See the pics below.
P1: 35m, WI2/3. P2: 14m, WI2/3. P3: WI2/3, 7m.  Bolted anchors, except the short upper pitch.

About 1 hour from the car up fairly easy ground. The hike will end you up near the top of the climb. Descend to the base of the falls, climb 2 pitches, exit an easy gulley on the left. Or climb the short upper pitch and scramble out on the left, or down-climb for the easy gulley. The pool in the middle of the falls tends to form a thin drum skin and is about 4.5 feet. An alright climb in a really nice setting.

Christie Falls Not in. See the pic. The seep behind the spray cone is just in, but doesn’t look like it would take good pro for the first 5m. The dagger at the top of the mixed route is almost half way to the ground! Lets hope it doesn’t fall with these warm temps. The trail is in good shape, but lots of blow-down in the 150m before the drop in that can easily be bypassed. The trail markers are on the ground. Still, it’s hard to get lost.
