February 28, 2011 (Thanks Don and Peter)

Highway 1 – Goldpan
Drove up to Goldpan Provincial Park on Saturday, February 26, 2011, and spent the day playing on the three routes in there.

Energizer is “in” and the rambling WI2 steps keep going and going. (see photo one)
Happy Boy is “in”, including the final curtain, which has now has touched down, but is see-through thin and heavily chandeliered (see photo two).
After the Gold Rush is “in”. The WI3 pillar is easy and fun right now (see photo three).
Replaced a few rap slings while we were there.
On the morning drive up, bottom of Jackass looked to be almost formed up (glimpsed while driving by at 80 km/h).
Pulled in to have a look at The Crucible from the parking area; a narrow bit of open running water at the bottom, but otherwise as fully formed as I have seen it this season.

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road
Peter sent some pics to go with his previous report – to recap:
I (Peter Watson) climbed Closet Secrets today Feb 26th, with Kevin Carriere (meeting off of Werners list). Route was in much stiffer shape then my last ascent. Thin ice at the bottom required a traverse in from the right. Ice was funky with a lense over much of the ice and the top layer was continually plating and needed much clearing. The top pitch is fun off the belay, but then it gets steep with more funky ice. WI4+ for sure. A small rock rack helped protect the climbing.
