January 2, 2011 (Thanks BJ and Drew)

Highway 40 – Bridge River
Jade Falls – Thin and steep looking at the very top, certainly thinner than picture at header of this website (see pic below also).
Xwisten Steps – Not sure. I’ll be damned if one can see this from the road, I’ve looked two years in a row.

Texas Creek Road (Lillooet)
Texas Two Step and Long Horn – A few blobs, not continuous whatsoever. Looked very dry (didn’t see where it could be dripping). Road to get there was okay, just a few rocks.
Spray Creek Falls – Large blobs of ice, but discontinuous (as viewed from ranch).

Highway 99 South – Duffey Lake Road
Wes, Eric, and myself (BJ Cassell) did some scouting and climbing this weekend (12/30-12/31). Overall, the ice was more brittle than I was used to, possibly due to very cold temps. Also, with the exception of the Rambles and Marble Canyon, everything seemed very dry.  We climbed at Marble Canyon, The Tube, Rambles area; and we looked at the other stuff with binoculars from the road.
Three Ring Circus – Looked in from what we could see.
Phair Creek – Road is snow covered and steep. We only made it about 3km before we turned around without seeing the climbs.
Synchronicity – Thin, “sinewy”, discontinuous areas of thick ice (see picture below).
Serendipity – Also still forming, but there were some fat blobs.
Carl’s Berg – Possibly climbable, but also has thin sections, especially in the middle.
The Tube – In, but not as fat as pic in the guidebook. Very aerated lower down.
Rambles Center – Was very fat. Right lower section was thinner, but climbable, upper right was very fat.

Highway 5 – Coquihalla Highway
Buszowski-Kippan and Crunchy Frog are in fat and snowy at Sumallo Bluffs.
Anthrax Ripple is pure snow w/ no sign of ice.

Saw some ice on the Mess routes and First Time Lucky too.
Landmark Curtain is just tiny icicles, but the rest of it is fat.

Highway 1 – Hope (the following only seen from the car):
Hope
area, in general, was thinner than I would go out there for. Still forming. Make out what you can from the pictures.
Bridal Veil Falls: Some ice, lots of running water.
Mousetrap might be good to go by Sunday.
Medusa looks pretty good.

Highway 1 – Fraser Valley:
Fraser Valley area, in general, was thin, dripping and forming. Seemed like the ice got fatter the further South down the road (towards Hope).
Jackass: Fair bit of ice, actually, but only saw it at 90km/hr,
Superheroes Cirque area: Thin. Similar conditions to page 126 in the guide.

Responses

  1. That’s the Synchrotron (L), not Serendipity…

  2. Great – I’ll edit it.
